eLaw well represented at CPDP2018

From Jan. 24 until Jan. 26 the 11th annual conference on Computers, Privacy and Data Protection (CPDP) takes place in Brussels. The Leiden Center for Law and Digital Technologies (eLaw) will be represented in several of the panels at the conference.

As partner within the EuDEco-poject, eLaw organizes a panel on accountability mechanisms for algorithmic networks on Friday Jan. 26, 10:30 (Petit Halle), with Francien Dechesne (eLaw, SCALES) as moderator and Karolina La Fors (eLaw, e-SIDES) as speaker, next to Lorena Jaume-Palasí (AlgorithmWatch), Frederike Kaltheuner (Privacy International) and Kyle Erickson (Palantir).

Furthermore, Simone van der Hof will be one of the panelists of “Growing up with advertisement in a digital media environment: data protection safeguards in disguise” (Wed Jan 24, 8:45, Grande Halle). At the same time, Rob van Eijk, external PhD-candidate at eLaw and internet technologist at the Dutch data protection authority, will speak in the panel "Technical protection against online tracking and profiling" (Petite Halle). Esther Keymolen will be moderator of the panel “My data was compromised: how am I supposed to fix it? Data breach notification and privacy” (Wed Jan 24, 10:30 La Cave). Francien Dechesne will be one of the panelists on “Cybernetics between utopia and loss of control. Managing transparency and accountability of the algorithms through source code?" (Fri Jan 26, 14:15 Area 42 Petit).

The students of eLaw’s Advanced Master Law and Digital Technologies will all attend the conference as well.
