Exploring the universe

How did our universe come into being? Are there any other planets that support life? Read all about it in our new research dossier ‘Exploring the universe’.

Questions about the universe are some of the greatest mysteries humanity has tackled. Using telescopes, astronomers from Leiden can capture light as old as 13 billion years, which lets them see all the way back to the ‘childhood’ of the universe. This also helps them learn more about how the universe developed. They are also looking for planets outside our solar system, and trying to find out if there could be life on those planets.

The Observatory at Leiden University is among the top five astronomical research institutes in the world. You can read all about the research being carried out in Leiden into the origin and the future of life in the scientific publication ‘Exploring the universe’.
