Veni award for Stephanie Rap

The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) has awarded Veni funding to Stephanie Rap. This award offers promising young scientists the opportunity to develop their own ideas over a period of three years.

Refugee children in asylum procedures

Refugee children have the right to be heard in asylum procedures. Through a combination of qualitative methods and legal analysis of children’s rights, this study provides an urgent exploration of the conceptual and practical implications of their right to effective participation. It will result in guidelines for effectively hearing children.

Stephanie Rap is assistant professor at the Department of Child Law, Institute of Private Law. Her Ph.D. dissertation titles ‘The participation of juvenile defendants in the youth court: A comparative study of juvenile justice procedures in Europe’. Stephanie Rap has published and presented extensively on juvenile justice, children’s rights and child participation in legal proceedings. She lectures on topics related to juvenile justice and child protection in the Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in International Children’s Rights.
