The developing brain and behaviour

Our childhood years largely determine how we will fare later in life. In the first two decades of our life, our brain is still developing, which is clearly reflected in our behaviour. By studying how the young brain develops and how children behave, researchers can learn important information about the optimum way to learn, and the optimum timing. This will lead not only to a more efficient school system, but this knowledge will also help children’s development outside the school environment. It gives them an important foundation for a strong position in society later in life. You can read in the research dossier on ‘The developing brain and behaviour’ about the research being conducted at Leiden University to help children learn smarter for better opportunities.
