Premiere: Astronomy on Tap Leiden
Having a drink in a cafe and at the same time learning something about astronomy: this is Astronomy on Tap. The first edition in Leiden will take place on Monday 27 March.
Seven Trappists
Visitors can listen to Leiden Observatory researcher Matthew Kenworthy at Grand Café de Burcht at 20:00. He will tell about seven exoplanets called trappists, which have been found outside our solar system close to dwarf star TRAPPIST-1. Next, colleague Christian Ginski will show how such exoplanets are being photographed. Organiser Liz Guzman will present the English evening.
Discovering the Universe with drinks
The organisers of Astronomy on Tap give understandable presentations about astronomic subjects in local cafes: from planets and black holes, to galaxies and the beginning of the Universe. During this free event, there is time for questions and interaction with the speakers, while enjoying a drink. Furthermore, games and quizzes will be played, while researchers, teachers, writers, artists and others reveal how they explore the Universe.
Satellite locations
Astronomy on Tap has been started by Mag Schwamb in New York. Nowadays, multiple satellite locations are active in the United States. This is the first time that the events is organised in Leiden. Astronomy on Tap will take place at Grand Café de Burcht every last Monday of the month.
