Part 2 of the study on the participation of children in youth care

As of 1 February prof. Mariëlle Bruning, dr. Stephanie Rap and Denise Verkroost LL.M. will start the second part of the research project concerning the participation of children in youth care.

In 2016 the first part, a legal desk-research on the possibilities for children to participate in youth care procedures and decision making in the Netherlands, was completed. It resulted in a research report and an article in the Dutch journal on Family and Child Law (see for the report in Dutch here).

The second part of this study considers the practical implementation of the right to be heard in youth care. Semi-structured interviews will be held with professionals from organisations carrying out youth care and protection measures. The aim of this study is to identify points for improving the effective implementation of the right to be heard. The second part of this study is financed by the Dutch foundation Pro Juventute and will be completed in summer 2017.
