Ab van der Touw new Chairman of the Board of Governors

A.F. (Ab) van der Touw (1955) is to become the new Chairman of the Board of Governors of Leiden University. Jet Bussemaker, Minister of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), has appointed him from 1 September 2016 for a period of four years. Van der Touw succeeds Nout Wellink whose term of office comes to an end on 1 September 2016. Wellink has been Chairman of the Board of Governors since 1 May 2008.

Van der Touw is Chairman of the Board of Governors of Siemens Nederland. He studied Classical Languages and History at Leiden University, and has an affinity with higher education. He has previously served as a Board Member of the National Science and Technology Platform that aimed to increase the number of graduates (from preparatory secondary vocational education, VMBO, to university education) with a technical science background. He was also a member of the  Platform on Education 2032 that advised State Secretary Dekker (OCW) on the future of the teaching curriculum for junior and secondary schools.
