The order was bestowed upon D’Alessandro by a decree from the President of Italy, H.E. Giorgio Napolitano, in recognition of her excellent academic merits for scientific research, and especially for her work on Italian dialects and academic activity both in The Netherlands and in very prominent universities worldwide.

The Ambassador addressed D’Alessandro as “an example of an outstanding Italian academic bringing prestige to her country of origin”.

Prof. D’Alessandro has directed several projects on Italian dialects and has presented her work at key academic venues worldwide. She is a member of the Young Academy of the Netherlands, which features 50 top researchers, and of the Global Young Academy.
