Applications can be considered for research proposals within all subject areas of Law and Governance. Proposals touching upon ongoing Leiden-Indonesia cooperation, or from lecturers at partner institutions of Leiden Law School, will be prioritised. If the application is not yet matched with a Leiden-based expert, the programme coordinator will identify a suitable expert and ask if he or she would be willing to supervise.

The application process comprises two steps:

1. Application to Leiden Law School

Applications must be submitted using this online sandwich programme application form. The following documents must be uploaded within your online application: 

• A short English language summary of your research goals and topics (max. 1500 words)

• A motivation statement: What is the purpose of the proposed stay and which subjects do you wish to research/study at Leiden Law School? 
• English language test score (e.g. IELTS or TOEFL) - required score: IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 90 (internet based) 
• One letter of recommendation (from an academic staff member)
• Evidence of your registration with a recognised Indonesian University.

Upon receipt of your complete application, Leiden Law School will consider your request. If you are accepted you will be issue with an Letter of Acceptance (LoA). Please note that admission cannot be guaranteed and is subject to both the quality of the application and the availability of a suitable supervisor.

2. Application to DIKTI

After admission to Leiden Law School you can use your LoA to apply for DIKTI funding via their PKPI-S3 programme (formerly known as the Program Sandwich-like S3 Luar Negeri). For information on procedures and deadlines please see the DIKTI website.

A tuition fee of € 650 per month will be charged which covers:

• access to the law library
• three meetings with a faculty member in the relevant area of expertise
• working space either within a research institute or in the library (with access to a computer and internet connection)
• use of other facilities such as photocopier & printers.

The cost of living for students in Leiden is estimated to be roughly between €900 and €1400 per month.

The funding, provided by DIKTI, should be based on a budget that includes the Leiden registration/supervision fee, a return flight, cost of living, health insurance and a book allowance. Accommodation

Immigration formalities

If you are accepted by Leiden Law School you will be provided with an invitation letter which you can use for visa application purposes.
