International Air Law Moot Court Competition 2020

Announcement Eleventh International Air Law Moot Court in St. Petersburg, Russia

2-4 October 2020

The International Institute of Air and Space Law of Leiden University is happy to announce that the eleventh edition of the International Air Law Moot Court is going to take place in St. Petersburg, Russia. This year, the International Institute of Air and Space Law of Leiden University and the co-founder of Sarin Memorial Legal Aids Foundation join forces with the Institute of Air and Space Law AEROHELP with the purpose of organizing the 11th edition of the Competition.

The International Air Law Moot Court Competition is a unique opportunity for students seeking to gain experience in the development of arguments in the field of international law and international air law, while also establishing contacts around the world.

We invite Universities having an interest for international air law to send a team to the Competition which will be held on 2-4 October 2020 in St. Petersburg, Russia. Accommodations as well as meals for the duration of the competition, in the period of 2-4 October 2020 in St. Petersburg to be exact, for maximum of three team members and one coach, will be covered.

CASE
On the right side under ‘Moot Court documents’ you will find this year's case concerning the dispute between the Republic of Hulahoop (applicant) and the Kingdom of Grosslandia (respondent) involving questions of international law and international air law;  as well as the Rules of Procedure, the National Rules of Procedure (in case a national round is required), the time schedule of the competition and other relevant documents. Please note that a number relevant ICAO annexes have been made available for you.  

REGISTRATION
Registration is now open. The deadline for registration is 29 October 2019.  Teams can register by sending an email to airlawmootcourt@law.leidenuniv.nl, including the following information:

  • Name of University:
  • Country:
  • Team members: (first + family name, gender)
  • Coaches: (first + family name, gender)
  • Attachments: Student cards or registrations at the university

Registration is completed successfully when the registration fee (see below) has been paid and received.

The deadline for payment of the registration fee (€ 150 per team) is 1 November 2019.

In addition, nine hard copies of applicant and respondent memorials have also to be sent to the moot court venue in St. Petersburg. An official postal address of the venue in St. Petersburg will be communicated to teams that registered successfully.

INDIAN TEAMS NOTE: The National India Rounds (compulsory for all Indian teams) will be held on the 1st of February, 2020 (Saturday) at the Army Institute of Law, Mohali. This will be a ONE day event. For registration in the National Rounds, please follow the same procedure as registration for the International Rounds, however only the qualifying teams shall be required to deposit the registration fee of EURO 150 by the 14th of February 2020.

CHINESE TEAMS NOTE: The National Chinese Rounds (compulsory for all Chinese teams) will be held on the 10th of February, 2020 (Monday) at the ... .This will be a ONE day event. For registration in the National Rounds, please follow the same procedure as registration for the International Rounds, however only the qualifying teams shall be required to deposit the registration fee of EURO 150 by the 14th of February 2020.
