Hazelhoff Centre for Financial Law

About us

The Hazelhoff Centre for Financial Law provides academic education and performs research in the field of financial law.

Rob Hazelhoff

The Hazelhoff Centre for Financial Law is named after Rob Hazelhoff (1930-2010). His bequest to the Hazelhoff Van Huet Foundation made it possible to establish the Hazelhoff Centre for Financial Law. As chairman of the board of Algemene Bank Nederland (ABN), Rob Hazelhoff was very much involved with the merger of ABN with Amro Bank, and thus stood at the cradle of what would become ABN AMRO Bank, currently one of the top-three banks in the Netherlands. He always had a special interest in Anglo-American financial law and it was his conviction that one cannot be properly active in international banking without having a thorough understanding of American financial law. Therefore, the particular attention of the Hazelhoff Centre for Financial Law for Anglo-American financial law results directly from Rob Hazelhoff's special interest. This particular attention emerges, inter alia, in the course Anglo-American Financial Law in the Financial Law master. During this course, several prominent visiting scholars from both the United Kingdom and the United States offer an Anglo-American perspective on banking and securities law.
