Legal History

Historical evolution law

Legal History asks how law has functioned in the past and how the current law has evolved through history. The answer serves both as a foundation for comparative law, and to complement, support and correct the current state of law.

The first question has its roots in social history, the second question in a systematic or genealogical approach to law. Both questions are addressed in our research, but our teaching centres more on the second approach, to connect with the courses in positive law.
