Jurisprudence

Jurisprudence is a philosophical introduction to the law. This subject is taught by the department of Jurisprudence.

Jurisprudence is the most comprehensive course that is taught at the faculty of law: it explains the various legal subjects, but also the other disciplines that are in relationship with the law like philosophy, sociology, political science etc.). It is the ambition of the department Jurisprudence to question the law. So not only what law is is highlighted, but also what the law should be. The course thus also maintains a close relationship with ethics. Main questions are: what is punishment? What is a state? Must the state remain separate from the church? What are human rights? Are there limits to freedom of expression?
