Education

Leiden Law School offers intensive education programmes that provide tremendous opportunities for talented students.

Leiden is internationally orientated and has many contacts with other universities abroad. The influence of internationalisation and European integration is steadily increasing in all areas of society and law. The design of our study programmes is entirely in line with these developments. With our campus in The Hague we are close to the political arena and many international organisations that operate in the area of peace and law.

Rankings

Leiden Law School receives good national and international reviews from students and professionals. The faculty ranks number 24 in the QS World University Rankings by subject . This ranking is based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact.  

Training opportunities at every level

Leiden Law School offers a wide range of educational programmes at all levels. Many are taught in English, making them easily accessible to international students. A variety of legal fields and topics are covered which means there is something for everyone, whatever your educational background and interests. 

Exchange/Study Abroad Programmes

Leiden Law School offers an extensive range of undergraduate law courses. Many of these are taught in English and are accessible to both Dutch and international students alike. As an international student, you can follow undergraduate law courses via an exchange or study abroad programme.

Bachelor's programmes

Leiden Law School offers four different Bachelor’s (LLB) programmes. These are taught in the Dutch language and are part of the standard Dutch law curriculum. See the Dutch page for details. 

Are you looking for undergraduate level education in English? We also offer many English-taught single semester courses that can be followed on a contract basis or as part of an exchange or study-abroad programme.

LL.M./MSc Programmes

The Master of Laws programmes are part of the standard Dutch law curriculum and form the required elements for students wishing to qualify for legal practice in the Netherlands. These programmes are also accessible for international students. We also offer MSc programmes in Criminal Justice and Law and Society.

LL.M. Programmes in Advanced Studies

Advanced Studies programmes are substantially more in-depth and demanding. They are specifically designed for excellent students with legal experience and for qualified lawyers who wish to enhance their career prospects. Students are also involved in the research carried out within their institute. They are taught by the Law School’s most senior faculty as well as leading experts in the field, and the number of contact hours is high. These programmes are highly international, with students coming from over 65 countries across five continents.

Summer Programmes

Several programmes are offered during the summer months in co-operation with institutions such as Columbia University in New York and our Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies in The Hague. Find out more about Leiden Law School's summer schools
