Classroom course

This is a traditional classroom course. The teacher and students are present in the physical classroom at the Leiden location.

Course description

The Swedish 7 course is intended for participants who have taken the Swedish 6 course or who have a similar level (B2). During the class, communication will take place in Swedish. The necessary grammar is covered in detail and ample attention is paid to Swedish vocabulary. All skills are covered: speaking, writing, reading and listening.

After taking this language skills course, one will be able to understand the main points from clear standard texts on familiar matters regularly encountered at work, while studying, travelling and in leisure time. One can produce simple texts on familiar topics. One can explain and describe experiences, events, expectations and aspirations.

The course uses the digital learning environment BrightSpace. Within this learning environment you will find homework and additional learning materials. Course participants are expected to prepare the lessons at home (approximately two hours per lesson).

At the end of the course, there will be a test. Students who have attended 80% of the lessons and successfully complete the final test will receive a certificate.

The course material is not included in the course fee. Course participants are required to purchase the material themselves.

Target group and admission requirements

The Swedish 7 course aims to learn to communicate according to the attainment levels C1.1 of the European Reference Framework (CEFR).

The course is intended for higher educated adults, both students and employees of Leiden University as well as interested people who have no relation to Leiden University.
The course is open to persons aged 17 and over with a completed secondary school education. Participants who have successfully completed the Swedish 6 course at the Academic Language Centre or who can otherwise demonstrate that they have the required entry level may enrol. 

Other information

  • The maximum number of participants for an online course is 16 and for a classroom course is 18.
  • The course load is 56 hours. On request a Course load declaration form can be issued. The student should enquire with their department whether course participation can be converted into credits.
  • The holiday periods can be found in the Academic Language Centre's academic calendar.
  • If classes are cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, they will be added on to the end of the course. Please take into account courses may end later than scheduled.
  • The course level is indicated with the help of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
