Course description

The aim of this course is to develop and broaden academic presentation skills in English. The focus will not be on grammatically correct use of language, but rather, on coherence and cohesion, terminology,  interaction with one’s audience and, to some extent, pronunciation. Participants will improve their fluency and will become more confident in public speaking in English. In short, you will be provided with the skills needed for successful presentations at conferences and effective lectures.

Course material

Participants will be given hand-outs.

Target group and admission requirements

The course is open to participants who give academic presentations at international conferences and/or lectures in English.  The language of instruction is English. Participants are expected to have English language skills at level B2+ or higher in terms of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

You are strongly advised  to take a placement test to make sure you currently have the knowledge required. You can simply complete the online placement test at home. When you are in doubt, contact us: 071 - 5272332 / talencentrum@hum.leidenuniv.nl

If you wish, you may also take the test at the reception desk of the Academic Language Centre on working days between 9:00 and 15:30 o'clock. It is not necessary to make an appointment.
