Course description

Upper-intermediate Business English is an intensive, practical course for those who do business with English-speaking countries, work at a company where English is the official language, or who plan to work abroad. The course is also suitable for students who are orienting themselves with with the labour market and for those who are preparing for a Cambridge exam in order to earn the (BEC) Vantage Business English Certificate.

The main objective of the Business English course is to help participants develop a wide variety of communication skills in English which will allow them to handle a wide variety of situations in a professional manner. During the course, we will address the most important grammatical skills as well as expand your business English vocabulary. In addition, we will practice using the English language in situations that are drawn from common business practice, such as exchanging information by telephone, writing formal business letters, reports and e-mails, giving presentations and participating in meetings. Participants may expect to gain confidence and acquire the necessary skills to cope with difficult situations in the workplace in diplomatic and correct business English.

The course is concluded with a written test. Participants who are present for 80% of the classes and successfully complete the final test will receive a certificate from the Language Centre. Please note: the official Cambridge exam is not part of the this course. More information about the official Cambridge exam can be found on the British Council website.

Target group and admission requirements

Business English Upper-intermediate is a practical intensive course for people doing business with English-speaking countries, working in local companies that use English in the workplace, or who are planning to work abroad. This course is also very suitable for university students preparing to enter the job market and people who are preparing for a Cambridge exam in order to attain the Business English Certificate (BEC) Vantage.

The language of instruction is English. Participants are expected to have English language skills at level B1 or higher in terms of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. To check your level, please do the entrance test.

  • The maximum number of participants for this course is 12.
  • The holiday periods can be found in the Academic Language Centre's academic calendar.
  • If classes are cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, they will be added on to the end of the course. Please take into account courses may end later than scheduled.
  • The course level is indicated with the help of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
