Course description

This follow-up course approaches the writing of academic texts in English in a somewhat unusual but extremely effective manner, based on the ideas of writing expert George Gopen. The emphasis lies on how the author can write sentences, paragraphs and texts which fulfil the expectations of an English-speaking reader audience. Our approach is based on research which has shown that a writer who takes into account a number of important reader expectations is less at risk of frustrating, confusing or in any other way alienating the reader. This course aims at offering you insight into your role as an author within the English-speaking academic world, namely the role of guide who leads his or her readers through a text in a professional manner.

Certificate of attendance will be provided when reached the minimum attendance: 80% of the lessons.

Course material

Participants will receive a reader in the first lesson. The reader is free of charge.

Target group and admission requirements

The course is open to participants who have succesfully completed the Academic Writing course and are currently working on a PhD thesis or an article for publication or any other academic writing project in English.
