About this lecture

This lecture provides a case study on the Dutch experience, in particular, reflecting on the assassination of Theo Van Gogh in 2004 to more recent periods when over 300 Dutch Muslims joined the Islamic State from 2013 onwards. Using the Dutch case, the question of European born Muslims implicated in extremism and radicalisation are discussed to explore some of the wider Western European similarities that are experienced by certain Muslim minority groups, with a focus on structural, political, economic, as well as wider sociological factors.
