Student for a Day - Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology
- 18 October 2018
Are you interested in studying the international bachelor's programme in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology? Do you want to know more about what it is like to study at Leiden University? Be a Cultural Anthropology and Development Student for a Day! By attending a lecture with a current anthropology student, you can learn all the ins-and-outs of this programme.
Economy and ecology lecture
During this lecture, we will focus on Unnatural Disasters. This lecture is part of the course economy and ecology: dichotomy and practice. Students gain insight into the complex relations between economy and ecology. Economic processes of production, trade, and consumption draw heavily on natural resources. The course will focus on debates about the tense relationship between economic growth and protection of the environment; inequality and violence in the distribution of wealth and environmental effects; alternative (more just and sustainable) economic practices; and the relationship between capitalism and the Anthropocene (climate change under the influence of human action).
