How does fieldwork abroad open us to different experiences?
During this event, Foteini, the international student ambassador, will be giving a presentation on the topic of national archaeologies and how doing fieldwork abroad opens us up to different experiences within the archaeological discipline, either through engaging with different chronological periods, places and methodologies, but also an international diverse group of colleagues.
This presentation will be part of the National Week of the International Student, where the international student body is celebrated for its contributions to the university experience. A number of students will be also included in this presentation who are excited to discuss their own fieldwork experiences and how they were opened up to new cultural and archaeological perspectives.
The goal of this event is to make the students aware that in an international environment, like in university or fieldwork, one is vulnerable to cross-cultural engagements.
This presentation will be followed with a pub quiz where the audience will be encouraged to answer fieldwork related questions. This quiz will range from uncomfortable to funny moments someone could experience in their fieldwork or when engaging with different cultures and nationalities.
The event will close with discussions over drinks.
