Connecting people, culture, society and science

On 16 June 2022, Synergy, the NWO conference for all social scientists and humanities scientists, will take place in the Fokker Terminal in The Hague. Synergy is for researchers and policy developers and aims to connect people, culture, society and science. NWO is developing a programme full of contemporary research results and opportunities for new collaborations.

Building trust, building impact

During Synergy you will meet researchers, policy developers and people from the business community. This year’s theme is Building Trust and Building Impact. At a time when science is under pressure, this is a very topical theme. Keynote speaker, Bernice Bovenkerk, philosopher at Wageningen University Research (WUR) and political scientist Tom van der Meer (UvA) will shed their light on these themes to spark conversations among visitors.

The will of the people and EU policy

During this conference there will be a session hosted by three researchers of Leiden University’s Institute of Political Science:

Representing EUINACTION—an interdisciplinary research project that seeks to explain and facilitate responsive and effective policy reforms—they will offer new insights as to how public demands for EU action translate into concrete EU policies in different areas. In their session, Ershova, Yordanova and Khokhlova session will offer a straightforward and engaging way to depict the extent to which the will of the people steers the direction of supranational political choices on issues of critical importance to the European citizens.
