Interdisciplinarity has become a buzzword in science and research, mainly because nowadays many researchers work in interdisciplinary teams. In these types of team constellations, effective and clear communication is key. Yet many academics struggle to communicate with colleagues from different disciplinary backgrounds. Teams composed of researchers from the social and hard sciences are particularly often plagued by communication problems as differences in epistemological and ontological outlook are pronounced. We have invited experts Professor Jessica Thompson and Dr Katrin Kriebs to discuss which communication strategies and best practices can render collaboration between researchers from different disciplinary backgrounds more effective.
