On June 24, Thijs Brocades Zaalberg and Bart Luttikhuis will present their edited volume Empire’s Violent End at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS), where the project originated. Along with expert contributors, the editors present comparative research focused specifically on excessive violence in Indonesia, Algeria, Vietnam, Malaysia, Kenya, and other areas during the wars of decolonization.
For this one-day workshop, a group of specialist scholars will gather at NIAS to discuss their ideas and approaches to studying the forms, dynamics, and legacies of decolonization violence.
The first copy of the book will be presented to NIAS-director Jan Willem Duyvendak.
