It is a pleasure to announce the imminent lecture of Prof. Charlie who is visiting from Wayne State University in Detroit. After a PhD from the University of Kansas, and a postdoctoral fellowship in Oxford, he took up an independent position back in the US. Here his research focusses on developing and utilising chemistry to study sugar signalling motifs in diseases that are characterised by altered sugar signalling. His group are true chemical biology in that they combine synthesis, biotechnology, and biochemistry to study cellular systems. They, for example, use chemical and photochemical reagents to study these processes in space and time and other creative approaches to study GlcNAc-signalling.
