South Africa's Cultural Diplomacy
- Embassy of South Africa representatives
- Tuesday 16 November 2021
- Culture and Politics Event Series
- Leiden University
As part of this Culture and Politics specialisation event, students will hear from representatives of the Embassy of South Africa in The Hague. They will speak about the prospects and challenges of cultural diplomacy as part of the larger diplomatic endeavours of the South African government. Concrete examples explored will range from the hosting of culinary events, to the leveraging of the power of social media in the digital age, to the engagement with Netflix in an effort to maximize exposure to South Africa in popular culture as well as to promote South African cultural industries. The talk will be followed by a Q&A session, so students are encouraged to come with questions related to deepening insight about the real world of international diplomacy.
Culture and Politics Event Series
The Culture and Politics Event Series serves to expose students to further themes related to their specialisation as well as to possible future career opportunities for which their specialisation provides required knowledge and skills.
