The post-war afterlives of British imperial citizenship

You are welcome to LUCIR’s launch of Ian Sanjay Patel’s new book We’re Here Because You Were There: Immigration and the End of Empire, in which he explores the post-war afterlives of British imperial citizenship and related attempts to reimagine and rejuvenate British imperialism and British idealism after 1945.

The interconnections between human rights, post-war migration, and international diplomacy

As a study of the global 1960s and the British imperial imagination, the book also examines the interrelationships between a supposed global racial crisis in the 1960s, the figure of the ‘coloured immigrant’, and the decline of formal British imperial power. Contributing to transnational histories of decolonisation, the book explores the interconnections between human rights, post-war migration, and international diplomacy.
