In an effort to bring its members closer together, the Medieval and Early Modern Cluster (MEM) organises monthly ‘MEM-meetings’, in which MEM-bers can freely discuss any topic relating to their activities within and outside the Cluster. The meetings provide an informal meeting platform for colleagues to share experiences and questions regarding their daily work and lives. Sessions typically take about one hour, depending on the attendance.

Attendees take turns in describing the type of work that they have been doing the past weeks. Contributions can be short or long, can address a specific question or can just indicate the overall drag of having to combine work and kids during corona. Some contributions will lead to unexpected cooperations or to the shared solution of problems and questions. Others will lead to getting to know each other better, both as researchers and as people.

The first session will be held on 11 March, at 16:00. To start off the MEM-meetings, we have asked three of our MEM-bers to provide 'open mic’ type presentations: a short (i.e. 5 min) talk over two-three slides relating to their research or teaching. For the first session, these short talks are spread evenly along junior-senior lines of the cluster, and will be provided by Louis Verreth, Thijs Porck and Stijn Bussels. But of course, everyone who is willing will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and talk about their past weeks' work.

We intend to fix this MEM-meeting on the second Thursday of each month, so take note of the following dates too: 8 April and 20 May (third Thursday because of Ascension Day). Early bird volunteers to present their 'open mic' slides during these following sessions are kindly invited to indicate their preference for either date.

Further data TBA.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or suggestions in the meantime, through the general e-mail address of the cluster: mem-lucas@hum.leidenuniv.nl.
