Siniša Malešević is a sociologist and one of the most prolific and innovative scholars in the field of Nationalism Studies. In this lecture he will explore the complex and contradictory character of nationhood and nationalisms. He will explain the meaning of the concept of grounded nationalism and then analyse how it operates in the wider social and historical context. In particular he will explore the organisational, ideological and micro-interactional processes that underpin the rise of grounded nationalisms throughout the world.
Recommended Reading: ‘Introduction: The Tenacity of Nationalisms’ from S. Malešević, Grounded Nationalisms: A Sociological Analysis (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press 2019) 1-21. To be downloaded through Cambridge Core database (accessible via catalogue of the University Library).'
