Mentor network live at Science: alumni speed date with students
- Tuesday 10 March 2020
- Gorlaeus Building
2333 CC Leiden
Help prepare Leiden students for their future! Become a (live) mentor and share your experiences and advice with students who face study and career choices.
The Mentor Network
The Mentor Network is an online platform that puts Leiden students (and young alumni) in touch with mentors: Leiden alumni who like to help them. Normally, the first mentor contact takes place online but at Mentor Network Live we bring the mentors to the Faculty, where students can meet them in person by means of speed dates.
Become a mentor!
All alumni (BSc, Msc or PhD) of Leiden University can become a mentor. To be a mentor, you do not necessarily need to have a killer career, super coaching skills or all your affairs in perfect order, the most important thing is that you are open to sharing your experiences and to provide insight into what life can look like after studying in Leiden.

Mentor network live
On Tuesday 10 March, we organise Mentor Network Live for the first time. For this event, we need 10 to 15 mentors who are willing to have short face to face conversations with students. The theme of this edition is ‘To do a PhD or not’ and will focus primarily on master's students of Chemistry, Life Science & Technology and Bio-pharmaceutical Sciences. For this, we are looking for both mentors who have obtained their PhD and mentors who chose not to.
Free coaching workshop with it
As a thank you for participating, we offer the live mentors a 1.5-hour Coaching Basics workshop, given by the experienced coach and career adviser Annemarie Loeters. Afterwards, you can immediately put your learned skills into practice with the speed dates. The coaching techniques are, of course, not only applicable to the mentees of the mentor network, you can benefit from them in all kinds of situations at work or in private.
Are you interested to participate? Let our alumni officer Annette Heijn know via email@example.com. You can also contact her if you have any questions about this event or the mentor network.
