Afterwards, there is opportunity for a drink. Access is free of charge!

The programme is as follows:

  • 16.00 - Public lecture for general audience and students
  • 17.00 - Drinks for all
  • 18.00 - End

Your host for this edition will be Professor of Animal development Michael Richardson. He invited Joep Beumer, PhD student for Hans Clevers at the Hubrecht Institute, to come and talk about snake venom gland organoids.

Short abstract: Organoids are emerging tools to study homeostatic functioning and disease of human organs. This technology is now for the first extended to reptiles by establishing cultures of the snake venom gland. Venom gland organoids from a dozen of species produce active toxins and allow for studying multiple aspects of venom such as gene regulation and evolution.  These cultures could allow a novel strategy of anti-venom production and bioprospecting.

This lecture will be in English.
