On Wednesday December 4th  the Major and Minor Conveners organize the annual Major & Minor Choice Event for first year students!

The afternoon will kick off with a plenary presentation on ‘how to choose your major’. This will be followed by two rounds of break out sessions in which the conveners will present their major or minor. You can expect information on the aims and the structure of the major/minor, the way they approach their subject, what kind of skills students will be expected to develop and how it prepares students for a future career. In addition to the conveners there will be students and alumni present who can tell you what it is like to study in the major and where they ended up after graduation.

All first year students should attend this event and come prepared. Look up the information on the majors and minors that interest you most and attend the sessions, so you can make a well informed selection of your courses for the second semester.

In block 4 each major convener will hold office hours, in case you still have questions about majors. The deadline to formally declare your choice for the major is Friday 1 May. After declaring your major you will be invited to a Nuts & Bolts session of your major, on 20 May. In this session you will receive more detailed information on how to plan your major in the upcoming two years.
