Prof. Hansen did a PhD in biophysical protein chemistry at the University of Copenhagen (2005) and afterwards joined the NMR group of prof. Lewis E. Kay at the University of Toronto for postdoctoral training. In 2010 he joined the UCL, where he is now professor and Chair of NMR spectroscopy. He studies the dynamics and mechanisms of interactions between histone deacetylases (HDACs) and their substrates, while simultaneously using HDACs as model systems for the development of new NMR methodology to characterise macromolecular motions, interactions, and dynamics.
