- Humanity House, The Hague
Humanity House is a museum and educational platform in The Hague devoted to raising discussions about humanitarian themes. This Culture and Politics specialisation site visit will consist of a tour of the permanent exhibition on refugee stories as well as of two smaller temporary exhibits, one by Dutch photographer Chris de Bode and the other by Ai Weiwei. While touring the exhibits, students are encouraged to reflect not only on the themes of the exhibits but also on the broader questions of narration and framing. That is, students are encouraged to think about how Humanity House concretely seeks through its exhibitions and programming to bring refugee issues onto the public radar. The visit of the exhibitions will be followed by a Q&A session with the director and will thus give the opportunity to pose questions about the sorts of challenges Humanity House seeks to overcome in advancing its message as well as what it finds to be the most effective strategies.
Culture and Politics Event Series
The Culture and Politics Event Series serves to expose students to further themes related to their specialisation as well as to possible future career opportunities for which their specialisation provides required knowledge and skills.
