The Executive Board of Leiden University warmly invites you to attend the opening of the academic year 2019-2020.

This will take place at 15:00 on Monday 2 September 2019 in Pieterskerk at Pieterskerkhof 1A in Leiden.

Programme

  • Welcome by Prof. Carel Stolker, Rector Magnificus and President of the Executive Board of the University.
  • Opening speech by Ingrid van Engelshoven, Minister of Education, Culture and Science.
  • Musical interlude by the Leiden Student Choir and Collegium Musicum Orchestra.
  • Speech by Prof. Hester Bijl, Vice-Rector Magnificus: ‘444 jaar onderwijs: waar Leiden toe kan leiden’
  • Announcement of the 2019 LUS Teaching Prize by Nienke Wit, chair of the Leiden University Student Platform.
  • Awarding of Gratama Science Prize by Reinier Gratama.
  • Musical interlude by the Leiden Student Choir and Collegium Musicum Orchestra.
  • Closing speech by Prof. Carel Stolker.

Please take your seat before 14:50. The programme will begin at 15:00 sharp. The ceremony will end at around 17:00 and will be followed by a reception in Pieterskerk, which you are also welcome to attend. An English interpreter will be present.
