On the 19th of September, the department of German Language and Culture of Leiden University and the Cultuur & Kommunikation foundation will be hosting a reading by the Austrian author Teresa Präauer. Our guest will read excerpts from her book „Tier werden“.
Teresa Präauer, born 1979 in Linz, is a writer and artist. She studied German at the University of Salzburg and the Humboldt University Berlin, and Fine Art at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Some of her works are still on exhibition, for instance her book sculpture at the Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Vienna. She celebrated the premiere of her drama „Ein Hund namens Dollar“ in May 2018 at the Schauspiel Frankfurt. She was also nominated for the Leipziger Buchmesse Award and the Ingeborg Bachmann Award.
Animals always play an important role in the works of Präauer. In her essay „Tier werden” she uses concrete images and philosophical reasoning to reflect on moments of metamorphosis and transition. Her focus is on everything hairy: from medieval mythical creatures to wig-wearing Toni Erdmann. She writes about the boundaries between man and animal, which are confronted by artists time and again.
The German department welcomes all students, lecturers and interested visitors to attend the event. The reading will be held in German.
