On Friday 5 April 2019 the annual Thorbecke Exchange will take place. This event is organized in collaboration with the law faculty of Ghent University. On that day, our Faculty of Law welcomes a delegation of professors, researchers and students from the law faculty of Ghent University for an extensive, day-long program. This year's theme is:

The new Belgian company law from a Dutch law perspective

The program consists of the following elements:

• Between 9:30 and 11:30h a PhD seminar will take place for PhD researchers from both faculties who are writing a dissertation on a corporate or insolvency law topic under the supervision of prof.dr. H. de Wulf (Ghent University) and prof.mr.drs. I.S. Wuisman (Leiden University). During this seminar the PhD students will be given the opportunity to present their research projects to each other and to give and obtain feedback on these presentations.

• Between 11:45 and 12:45h a pleading competition will take place in which members of JFV Grotius will compete against students of the Ghent students’ association VRG. This pleading competition will be held at the Grotius Hall of the Kamerlingh Onnes Gebouw.

• Between 12:45 - 14:45h there will be a joint lunch and a tour of the Hortus Botanicus for invited guests.

• At 15:00h prof.dr. H. de Wulf will deliver the Thorbecke Lecture of this year, which is entitled “Belgium-Holland in Business Law: a Friendly Match, or is the Netherlands turning itself into the Delaware of Europe?”. This lecture will, inter alia, focus on several (structural) differences and similarities between the two corporate law jurisdictions, as well as the more dominant role the Netherlands has played in the legal market in recent years. The lecture will take place at the Grotius Hall. Subsequently, there will be an opportunity for the audience to respond to the lecture and to have a substantive discussion on this subject under the guidance of prof.mr.drs. I.S. Wuisman.

The day will be festively closed at 16:30h with drinks in the restaurant of the Kamerlingh Onnes Gebouw.

Interested parties are more than welcome to attend the pleading competition, the Thorbecke Lecture and the concluding drink. There are no costs associated with participation.
