Micromorphology is the study of undisturbed sediment samples in order to see the relationship and arrangement of individual particles. This technique has become one of the most important and popular tools for the study of contexts related to the archaeological material. It has been used to answer a variety of research questions regarding the stratigraphy of a site, anthropogenic features, landscape evolution etc.
This lecture will present basic concepts and applications of micromorphology in archaeological research. It will address issues from sampling techniques to sample preparation and sample description.
