On Wednesday 6 March Professor O’Malley will present the research agenda for the research group United Nations Studies in Peace and Justice and give a talk entitled: ‘The United Nations, From Blue Helmets to Blue Skies.’

Professor Alanna O’Malley is Chair of United Nations Studies in Peace and Justice, a newly-created position at the Faculty of Governance, Law and Security of The Hague University of Applied Sciences.

This Chair, in honor of the former Dutch Foreign Minister and Mayor of The Hague, Jozias Van Aartsen, is shared with Leiden University. The main focus of the Chair will be to create a new interdisciplinary research group on United Nations Studies and to organise a series of academic and public events to mark the 75th anniversary of the United Nations in 2020.

O’Malley: “I consider this an opportunity to bring together the strong UN community (including academics, practitioners and social organisations) that exists in The Hague around a clear agenda. I hope that this will lead to strong and sustainable partnerships. The UN has an image problem, we have to change it.”
