Professor Elizabeth Weiss from San José State University will be introducing the audience to the Ryan Mound collection, a California Amerindian collection that dates from 2150 years before present to 150 years before present.  The Ryan Mound collection contains over 400 individuals whose preservation is so excellent that in many cases even hand bones are available for study.  In her career, Professor Weiss has published extensively on the Ryan Mound; she has used the collection in studies that range from comparisons with early hominins to in-depth analyses of unique individuals in the collection.

As the collection’s curator, she has helped both local and international students and professors gain access to the remains, to conduct research that furthers the understanding of all past peoples.  Her talk will review her own research on the Ryan Mound as well as highlighting some research conducted by students of San José State University.
