On Wednesday 13 February, Mike Eman will deliver a lecture on overseas territories and the EU. Mike Eman is an Aruban politician and served as Prime minister of Aruba from 2009 until 2017.
In the first part of his lecture, Eman will elaborate on European citizenship, the principle of equal treatment and the right to vote. He will specifically comment on the consequences of Case C-300/04 Eman and Sevinger, whereafter the Kingdom of the Netherlands changed its laws concerning the right to vote in European Parliament elections for national residents in overseas territories.
Subsequently, Eman will speak about the role of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in developing solutions for global challenges like energy, food, climate change, migration and ocean’s needs while paying extra attention to the EU dimension.
The lecture will be followed by a question and answer session and subsequently drinks in the restaurant of Leiden Law School.
