Invitation AUTO
Come, and immerse yourself in autogenous authenticity, autopia, or in some arbitrary autodestruction!
The Media Technology MSc program proudly invites you to this year’s semester project exhibition with the title AUTO. We are a creative research masters within Leiden University's Computer Science Department and encourage students to develop alternative approaches to academic research. Scientific explorations include the creation of installations, games and other forms of experiences. These practices are showcased every year within the scope of the semester project exhibition. This year, the exhibition’s theme is AUTO, with each individual exhibited work having its own auto-related sub-theme.
Exhibition
We have chosen ‘AUTO’ as global theme for this year’s semester project. From this global theme we derived multiple sub-themes: Autodestructive, Authentic, Arbitrary, Autocreation, Autopia, Autogenous, Autoregulation and Autogenesis. The students work in groups of three and two, each with their own sub-theme.
The semester project has three phases. First, students are asked to explore their theme in the broadest sense (social, mathematical, biological, etc.) and discover what it could possibly relate to. After gaining sufficient insight they formulate compelling statements related to the theme. Only once this stage is completed they translate their statements into installations. Together these installations form the semester project exhibition.

Exhibition Host: Old School
The host for this year’s exhibition is Old School in Leiden. Old School is a flourishing cultural initiative located right next to the Pieterskerk. It is a gallery, an intimate cinema, a cozy theater and a coffee bar in one, a place that shares the same creative and exploring approach as we do.
Exhibition Dates
Free admission. The exhibition is divided in two periods:
December 7, 8 and 9 the works are exhibited as ‘preview’ from 11:00-18:00. This means the students can still make small changes and learn from the audience’s reactions.
The final works are exhibited December 14, 15, 16, 21 and 22 from 11:00-18:00.
Exhibition Opening
The formal opening of the exhibition takes place on Thursday, December 13th at 17:00 hours and lasts till 20:00 with a ceremonial event at 17:30.
