Early-career workshop

This one-day workshop brings together early career scholars working topics related to Shii Islam. The workshop will address the concept of piety both in its material expression, its literary representation and its theoretical articulation. While the idea of ‘piety’ is in some ways problematic, disguising a plethora of separate expressions of religiosity, it has nonetheless been commonly used by scholars of Islam, from Marshall Hodgson to Lara Deeb, to indicate the intersection of the theory and practice of being Muslim.

Leiden University workshop, funded by the Juynboll Stichting and LUCIS
Organized by Edmund Hayes and Radhika Gupta

If you are interested in reading the papers before the workshop, please write to e.p.hayes@hum.leidenuniv.nl
