The seminar provides an overview of the Brexit negotiations to-date from the perspective of the UK Government. The speaker, Nathaniel Copsey, was previously a UK academic and Professor of European Union Politics. His last book Rethinking the European Union (Macmillan) was published in 2015. He joined the British Government in 2015 to work on David Cameron’s membership renegotiation. He then worked in the small Referendum Unit in the Cabinet Office for the duration of the 2016 campaign. He returned to the FCO in 2016 and joined the Diplomatic Service in 2017. He is now head of the Europe Expertise and Transformation Department, responsible for both the transformation of ways of working on European affairs to cope with Brexit and for research and training on Europe and EU matters.
