The objective of the project Interaction between legal systems 2.0; solidarity under strain (ILS SOLID 2.0) is to what extent (labour)migration influences the conceptual boundaries and organization of national welfare states. One way of undermining solidarity in a national state is through hiring cheap immigrant workers under conditions that violate (national) labour law standards. In the Netherlands the usage of so called bogus constructions is a well-known phenomenon. In recent years this phenomenon has regularly ignited public debate. Abuse of East European workers is manifest in many sectors such as agriculture, construction, cleaning, shipping, catering industry, international transportation and Rhine cruises. During this seminar bogus constructions in the Netherlands are being discussed and analysed from different perspectives. Guest speakers with scientific, judiciary, enforcement and employee advocacy backgrounds focus on legal, societal and social scientific aspects. The international, national and European dimension of bogus constructions is considered too. Moreover, ongoing research on the labour conditions of international truck drivers working within the EU is reported on.
