Al-Babtain Leiden University Centre for Arabic Culture
On the occasion of the opening of the Al-Babtain Leiden University Centre for Arabic Culture a festive poetry event will take place in Leiden University's Academy Building on Wednesday 10 October. With this event we will celebrate the partnership between Leiden University and the AbdulAziz Saud Al-Babtain Cultural Foundation. The festive ceremony will commence in the Main Auditorium at 17:15 hrs.
With speeches by:
- Petra Sijpesteijn, professor of Arabic and director of LUCIS
- Mr Al-Babtain, director of the Al-Babtain Cultural Foundation
- Professor Wadad Kadi, the first Al-Babtain visiting professor.

Poetry recitals
After these short addresses, four poetry recitals will follow:
- Abdullah Alhatlani will read poetry written by Mr Al-Babtain in Arabic
- Dr Peter Webb will read Al-Babtain's poetry in English translation
- Anne Vegter, Poet Laureate of the Netherlands from 2013 until 2017, will read two of her poems
- Professor Wadad Kadi will read the Arabic translation of Anne Vegter's poems.
Drinks
The ceremony will be followed by a reception at the Faculty Club.
