Two special guest lectures are organised at the Scheveningen beach, especially for all students in The Hague. It is a collaboration between the universities for applied science in The Hague, Leiden University Campus The Hague and the municipality of The Hague.
On 19 September the second Beach Lecture is organised. This lecture will be completely in English. Speakers are Amy Verdun, professor of European Politics and Political Economy at Leiden University, and Joris Luyendijk, journalist and author of Swimming with Sharks, My Journey Into The World of Bankers and Can we talk.
Lecture Amy Verdun
The past decade has seen multiple crises and challenges : the financial and European debt crisis, the migration crisis, the Brexit crisis and even, one could argue, the challenge posed by right-wing populism. In light of these challenges what can we say about trust in Europe? This lecture examines these issues and offers some insights into what we might lie ahead for the future of European governance. Students can ask questions after the lectures.
The Beach Lecture is hosted by Beachclub Indigo in Scheveningen. Students are welcome at 3.30pm, at 4pm the first lecture will start. After the lecture a beach BBQ is organised. This costs 5 euro (one drink included).
Note: the lecture will be in English.
The beach lectures are a collaboration between the universities of applied science in The Hague, Leiden University and the city of The Hague.
