LeidenGlobal presents new photographs ‘Heritage on the Move’
Within the central theme ‘Heritage on the Move’ LeidenGlobal in 2017 started a photo exhibition with 12 photographs by scholars from Leiden showing their idea of the impact of migration on heritage. Cultural heritage is often understood in terms of local identity alone. But in fact it travels across the globe because of trade, human migrations and many other forms of connectivity, including mass media; and it has done so since times immemorial. In this process people may change, but so does the cultural heritage on the move.
This exhibition moved around Leiden and surroundings and was successfully exposed to a huge amount of people. Thus LeidenGlobal decided to extend the exhibition with another 6 photographs from scholars from LeidenGlobal partners with their ideas on the theme. Amongst others photographs will be presented by scholars from Cultural Anthropology, the African Studies Centre and Archaeology.

During the exhibition at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences from August 11th until October 11th also a few lectures will be given by the photographers on their research related to one of the presented photographs. The opening lecture by Gerard Persoon will be held on 11 September, from 16.30 - 17.30. Read more here.
