Summer School Socio-Legal Research Methods and Methodologies

2 July 2018 - 11 July 2018

From July 2nd – July 11th 2018 the Van Vollenhoven Institute for Law, Governance & Society (VVI) will organize the summer school 'Researching Law in Action and Law in Context: Socio-Legal Research Methods and Approaches.'

The summer course aims to provide an orientation to the possible forms of socio-legal research and the tools that can be deployed in conducting such research. In doing so, the course will introduce participants to various approaches to socio-legal research (legal pluralism, legal consciousness, critical legal studies, critical race studies, law and culture, etc.) and  train them to use and apply certain research methods in order to collect and analyze data (building a survey, conducting interviews, participant observation, etc.).

In the course there will be a lot of space for participants to bring in questions related to their own research (plans) and to get some one-on-one feedback by experts in the field. This makes the summer course particularly interesting for PhD students/ graduate students/ master students, but also for legal scholars who are looking for an introduction into the field of socio-legal scholarship.

Further information about the summer school (exact program, number of participants and fee) will be posted on our website as soon as possible.
