In the slipstream of the National Science Agenda and the increasing call for societally relevant research, the academic world has embraced the study of societal challenges. There is also general agreement that this complex theme requires a broad scientific approach in the form of close collaborations between disciplines. But is academia ready for this? Is collaboration between people with different backgrounds the bigest challenge for society AND science? In her inagural address, prof. Mesman sheds light on these academic issues using a non-academic format.
For those interested in interdisciplinary work, there is a symposium about this theme in The Hague on the same day, preceding the inaugural address.
